Organization Background

Veterans Helping Veterans

Formally established in 2018, Haven for Hero’s, Inc. was created to provide veterans and their families with affordable housing  solutions to overcome homelessness and overwhelming challenges and achieve a high quality of life. To this end, we are Veterans helping veterans who are experiencing homelessness, as well as others in the community, to develop comprehensive service plans designed to meet the needs of veteran’s finding affordable housing nationwide. The board behind Haven for Hero’s includes individuals who possess years of experience in serving our target demographic as well as serving our country.

Our mission is to eliminate veteran homelessness by providing housing solutions and services that will empower and impact the lives of homeless veterans and their families.

Individual empowerment and self-determination have always been strong components of the organization. Founded by Barzel and Brenda McKinney,(retired army veterans) the organization was conceived and organized to address the lack of housing and outreach support to disadvantaged veterans and their families, to counteract failure, and to assist in the successful transition to life in a positive environment. Our mission is accomplished by addressing the critical issues of homelessness, housing, and personal responsibility through Reintegration programs and services that exercise high standards of ethics, coupled with best practices in management and accountability. We are dedicated to helping each veteran find affordable housing.

Recognizing the physical and emotional effects of homelessness, the organization’s programming and services were established to teach personal excellence in life, while encouraging a belief in personal responsibility, instilling habits of hard work, and demonstrating passionate commitment to excellence. These activities aspire to take life change to another level. The goal of the program is to become an aggressive resource in broadening the scope of housing resources for all homeless veterans in the community, while at the same time incorporating the importance of good character.

Our organization is currently seeking funding to increase our organizational capacity through the acquisition of capital funding for acquisition and renovation of homes to be used to accommodate veterans and their families. Activities will continuously provide veterans the opportunity to achieve optimal self-sufficiency, thus fostering self-confidence and high self-esteem.

Our activities are overseen by a group of well-qualified individuals. Our diverse staff members have ties to the community, industry and service and thus possess the unique ability to relate to the target demographic. Additionally, our Board of Directors is comprised of a professional group of talented individuals who are dedicated to committing their time and resources to build a stronger community.
